Based on our vast experience, we’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions to help you save time.

What are the different types of air conditioners?

There are four main types of air conditioners.

  1. Split System Air Conditioners

What is split system air conditioning?

This is an air conditioning system that consists of an indoor and an outdoor unit. The outdoor unit houses the condenser coil, the condenser cooling fan, and the compressor. This unit is installed on the outer wall of the room that is to receive air conditioning. The indoor unit, on the other hand, contains the evaporator, expansion valve and fan.

Compared to traditional AC systems, the split system ensures the sources of noise i.e. the compressor and condenser fan, are not in the same room thus guaranteeing quiet performance. In addition, the split system lowers energy costs since it does not require ducts to transmit cool or hot air from the outdoor to the indoor unit. Instead of ducts, air is channeled through refrigerant tubing which greatly minimises energy loss.

  1. Ducted Air Conditioners

What is ducted air conditioning?

A ducted air conditioner works by channeling air through a network of passages called ducts installed in the roof space of a home or building. The unit is placed in a central location in the roof space, and ducts are connected to this unit which run to the different number of rooms the owner desires.

A ducted air conditioner is a great investment if you desire to have multiple rooms air conditioned. Through the zoning function you can easily determine the temperature of specific rooms and other settings.

  1. Multi-Head Split Systems

This is an air conditioning system that is identical to the split system (described above) but comes with one significant difference – one outdoor unit is designed to power multiple indoor units.

This system is ideal for residential or commercial establishments with limited wall space to house multiple outdoor units. They’re also quite economical e.g. 1 external unit can run up to 4 indoor units thus lowering energy costs.

  1. Ceiling Air Conditioners

As the name suggests, these are air conditioner systems which are mounted on the ceiling. There are two main varieties: under ceiling, and ceiling cassettes.

Under ceiling conditioners sit just below the ceiling, while ceiling cassettes are installed in the ceiling. These conditioners are excellent for homes or commercial establishments with premium wall space, or they can be installed for aesthetic purposes i.e. to enhance the appearance of a room.

Do you service and maintain air conditioners?

Yes, we do. We perform routine maintenance checks, and service all types of air conditioning units and systems. For Rockhampton and Yeppoon residents, areas that frequently experience high temperatures, we recommend having your air conditioners serviced on a quarterly basis especially if they’re used in commercial establishments. Ducted air systems in particular can be quite expensive to repair if the system is installed in a structure with many rooms.

What type of air conditioner is best for my home?

It depends on several factors.

For instance, if you want multiple rooms to be air conditioned and you’d like to control the temperature settings for each room then you should consider ducted air conditioning or a multi-split air conditioner. If your home is relatively small with a few rooms then a ceiling air conditioner, or a split system might be perfect for you.

Our professionals are always ready to help you find the best air conditioner for your home and carry out the installation when needed. Please contact us to learn about the different options that may serve your home best.

What type of air conditioner is best for my business premises?

It depends on a variety of factors e.g. the size of your business premises, your preference, the number of rooms you want air conditioned, your budget e.t.c.

A business establishment with many rooms can benefit from either a multi-split system or a ducted air conditioner. If you have a few rooms then a centralised air conditioner such as a ceiling air conditioner, or a split system can serve you well.
